Mission, Vision & Values

Activate Change Drivers was initiated in January 2012, and to date has provided more than 2500 young South Africans with the training to change their lives, and the world they inhabit. The organisation is present across all nine provinces from cities, rural areas, education levels, in diverse religious and sexual orientations and identities.

The Activate Theory of Change:
If young people are provided with a provocative platform to meet, connect AND be inspired to actively contribute to the common good, strengthen develop their abilities and skills set THEN they can be innovative and active citizens who can drive positive social, economic and political change for South Africa and the global good.

So, what exactly do we do?

ACTIVATE! Change Drivers is a youth leadership development programme that brings more than 3250 young people together in a national network, through leadership training. These young people, or ‘Activators’, are consciously and critically engaged in multi-sectoral initiatives across the economic, political and social spectrums.

Our model comprises of two strategic elements, both central to the development of a young person as an agent for change. Firstly, there is a training element. The ACTIVATE! Change Drivers course is a residential training commitment (18 days) with ongoing home tasks. The second element is a wide-range of platforms and formats, geared to support Activators to increase their influence and impact. It aims to support their specific social initiatives and overall entrepreneurial approach, sustaining their connections to each other and the broader network or resources and opportunities.

Our programmatic framework is based on these five key pillars:

EQUIP

Activators are equipped with personal development & growth, along with a knowledge base and toolkit to support them to drive public innovation. This takes place through the ACD Training Course.

CONNECT

Activators are connected to each other, to resources, to thought leaders, and to socio-economic opportunities through the creation of shared spaces for meaningful engagement and collaboration.

INSPIRE

Activators are inspired by, and in turn inspire, the South African public through stories of impact, innovation and socio-economic opportunities.

PROVOKE

Activators provoke public debate with new ideas, approaches, dialogues and opportunities.

INFLUENCE

Activators influence South African society at a personal, inter-personal, local and national level.
