There are many reasons for volunteering. At times,
volunteer experience may be part of a school’s credit
requirements, other times, it may be a way for an
individual to enhance their skills and competencies
for future employment or educational opportunities.
No matter the reasons, volunteering is proven to have
a signifi cant impact on society, and it has traditionally
been linked with: making services more caring and
personal; encouraging innovation and a fresh perspective;
promoting equality; enabling a service to be
user-led; promoting community cohesion; reducing
dependency, promoting equality; and helping the
unemployed or underprivileged enter the
work market.
