RE: UNESCO MGIEP, LAUNCHES THE RETHINKING LEARNING PUBLICATION ON MANDELA DAY.
Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” and aptly on his birthday (18 July) UNESCO MGIEP will launch the publication titled ‘Rethinking Learning – A Review of Social and Emotional Learning for Education Systems.’ The publication reviews the latest research on social and emotional learning (SEL), its impact on student health and school climate, and its transformative role in building happier classrooms. The publication is said to be beneficial to educators, learners, policymakers as well as parents keen to know about SEL in everyday learning.
“In a world facing ever growing inequality and division, delivering quality education is one of the most significant challenges we are faced with today, especially in the age of Covid-19,” says founder and former CEO of Activate! Change Drivers, Chris Meintjes. “If we are serious about nurturing young minds and growing productive, balanced and fulfilled people, we should be focusing all our attention on the best way to deliver on that. I would say the publication is essential reading and an opportunity to join and engage with an important network that can bring about change,” he adds.
Rethinking Learning seeks to inform and impress upon Member States the urgent need to mainstream SEL in education systems. It comprises of eight chapters and a Summary for Decision Makers – put together by over twenty contributors from eight countries. The publication will be launched virtually with a unique children’s panel titled ‘Do feelings matter in the classroom’, in which they will have seven bright young hearts and minds join us from seven different countries.
