PRESS RELEASE – YOUTH NETWORK ACTIVATE! CHANGE DRIVERS TO PARTICIPATE IN A JOINT INTERGENERATIONAL YOUTH DIALOGUE IN SOWETO

PRESS RELEASE: For Immediate Release 7 June 2024
Youth network ACTIVATE! Change Drivers to participate in a joint intergenerational youth dialogue in Soweto.
Led by the Moral Regeneration Movement in partnership with the South African Council of Churches, Sam Nzima Foundation and June 16 Youth Development Foundation. The event will take place on the 13th of June at DOCC/YMCA Community Center, Orlando East opposite Orlando Police Station, 6545 Rathebe Street, 1804 from 09:00 – 16:00, and will comprise of a dialogue and an intergenerational program, aimed at youth development, education, and the inclusion of faith-based institutions towards encouraging ethical youth leadership.
The Youth Dialogue and Prayer Programme comes immediately after the announcement of the 2024 General Elections in South Africa where several partners in the programme had played a role in promoting the South African Democracy Project by developing the Charter of Election Ethics led my MRM in partnership with SA Catholics Bishop Conference that called for the National Day of Prayer for Elections, led by the South African Council of Churches.
The dialogue will seek to reflect on the values, virtues and victories of youth leadership, involvement and participation not only in the struggle for social justice but in the fight for quality education, as demonstrated by the class of 1976.
“This is a programme that seeks to promote active citizenry amongst our young people through a comprehensive Civic Education Programme for the youth leading to the 2026 Local Government Elections”, Seth Mazibuko, MRM COO.
“The programme will begin a process to identify some of the factors that impact the molding of the Character of Young People of South Africa, including “the spirit of Ubuntu” that defined the Values of African Culture and Traditions”, Lebohang Zimba, ACTIVATE! network lead.
It is in this conversation and reflection that the involvement of the Church and the Traditional Leaders will be critical and that the academia will also be required to give an intellectual interpretation of youth development, quality education and ethical youth leadership.
