Community development certificate course

Many times, many activators are effective community development workers lacking only a formal qualification. The CCD Course is accredited by SAQA as a nationally-recognised tertiary certificate, instructing course attendees in local & international best practice and practical skills.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

  • Artboard 2 Walk away with the ACTIVATE! Community Development Certificate accredited by the SAQA as a nationally-recognised tertiary certificate.
  • Artboard 2 Get to grips with local and international best practice.
  • Artboard 2 Enhance your ability and capacity to be an effective change agent and change driver for an equitable, fair and just humanity.
  • Artboard 2 Reflect critically on your work, as you gain deeper skills and knowledge.
  • Artboard 2 Gain an introduction into Community Development Theory and Practice.
  • Artboard 2 Go deeper into your understanding of Youth Development & Peer Education.
  • Artboard 2 End off the course with learning how to formalise community development initiatives.
Who is this for?

So often, many activators are effective community development workers, without any formal qualification. Accredited and recognised locally, this course equips you with the paper to back your skills.

Am i eligible for this course?

Walking a journey together delivers successful results.

Members of the Activate network (for a minimum of a year) are eligible for this course. You will also require a matric certificate (with a pass in Maths/Maths Literacy and English) or an FET qualification.

Currently, our intake number is limited to a maximum of 45 per run of the course. We are working to increase our intake over time.

Applicants are required to complete a pre-course assignment.

How long does the course run for?

The duration of this course is 12 months.

3 modules are presented in periodic sessions, lasting 4-7 days. The sessions are a mixture of residential and non-residential.

How much does the course cost?

Once learners have been accepted onto the course, the following needs to be paid:

  • A registration fee (once-off, paid after acceptance) and,
  • A monthly fee.

ACTIVATE! will cover the costs of accommodation and meals, for the residential sessions only. Activators are expected to organise their own accommodation and meals for all non-residential sessions.

Sessions are presented in 3 regions nationwide. ACTIVATE! subsidises the travel cost of participants who have to travel more than 50km to reach the training venue.

Can i complete the course part-time?

Participants are required to:

  • Attend all sessions;
  • Apply what they have learned to their own community work (assignment requirements);
  • Submit formative assignments timeously;
  • Write Summative Assessments (‘exams’);
  • And comply with all SAQA/NQF requirements.

Full-time students and employees should consider the considerable time commitment required for this course.
